Over eight years we have sent 10 million LinkedIn DMs on behalf of clients, booked thousands of meetings, closed millions in deals, and made most of the mistakes along the way. Here is the short list of what that volume taught us, delivered as 25 lessons in under eight minutes. The thread running through all of them is that LinkedIn rewards relevance and consistency far more than polish, so short problem-first messages to active people beat long researched ones sent to everybody. We also name the lessons we got wrong for years and had to reverse, which makes this a checklist any sales leader or founder can audit their current outreach against today.
What you will learn
- The pattern disrupt openers we use, I know this is random and you seemed like the best person to reach out to about this, and why hey first name or thanks for connecting gets skipped.
- The four lead lists to build in Sales Navigator (connection requests sent, messages sent, replies, meetings booked) and why without them you have no idea where you are losing people.
- Why we only message the 10 to 20% of a target market who are active right now: someone who posted within the last month is 10 times more likely to respond than someone who has not logged in for six months.
- Problem-oriented beats solution-oriented in every industry we have tested, two to three sentences is the ceiling, and we have booked more meetings from messages three and four than from message one.
- Why breakup messages pull replies out of people who ignored everything else, and why a reply saying not interested is worth more than silence, because an objection is an opening.
- The 200 connection requests a week ceiling, why a missed week is gone for good, and why we tell people to commit 30 minutes a day or hire a virtual assistant rather than let software send on their behalf and risk a restricted account.
- When a template is hitting 30% or higher reply rates, stop tweaking it and add volume. Reassess targeting and messaging quarterly at a minimum, which for our clients means every two weeks.
Happy to talk through which of these would move your numbers first, so book a call whenever it is useful.
