LinkedIn rolled out native post scheduling to all users at the start of 2023, and scheduling turns out to be the easy half. The hard half is the hook, because your post sits collapsed in the feed and the only thing a reader sees is the first line or two, so getting people to hit see more is what helps the post reach more people. We show the native scheduling steps quickly, then spend most of the time on how a post is structured. For founders, sales leaders and marketers who post but are not getting read, you leave with a structure, a way to preview exactly where your post gets cut off, and several worked examples from creators we rate.
What you will learn
- How to schedule natively: start a post, hit the clock next to the post button, pick a date and time, and the button changes from post to schedule. It works on desktop and on your phone.
- The structure we use on every post: hook, story, then the offer, which we call the call to action. Only the hook should sit above the see more cutoff.
- The AuthoredUp Chrome extension, which we have no affiliation with, and what it gives you: a live preview of where see more falls, a character count, bold text and bullet points.
- What LinkedIn published about length: posts between 800 and 1,200 characters perform best, and heavy line breaks make them readable on mobile.
- Why adding an image to most posts helps. It takes up more screen space as people scroll, so they stay on your post longer and are more likely to engage and share it.
- Three worked examples: Samantha McKenna's post on ghostwriting for executives, Nate Nasralla's one pager that sales development representatives can use to track pipeline, and Armand Farrokh's post on turning open ended questions into bucket questions that give the prospect two options.
- Call to action options at the end, from asking a question that drives comments (one example pulled 46 comments) to pointing readers somewhere else, and why you should borrow the format of good creators rather than their topics.
